Frequently Asked Questions

To help you get started, here are the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions. If you can't find the answer to your question, please contact the Gwhizz Networks team.

Question mark

Upgrading your business' internet connection can have a multitude of advantages such as faster loading speeds, more dependability, a more powerful signal, faster access to the cloud, enhanced protection and reduced levels of stress for your workers. Perhaps the most significant benefit, however, is improved productivity. If your staff are taking a long time to search for or download documents, a small lag in the internet connection can significantly decrease the rate of productivity.

Consumer equipment is designed primarily for the lowest price point, as domestic customers don't see a benefit to paying for higher quality hardware. They cater for lower reliable speeds and support fewer concurrent devices and connections, and Wi-Fi signals can be weak, as well as not being well supported by the vendor. Enterprise hardware is the most reliable and gives the highest performance, being specially designed hardware for the most strenuous of network environments, and is well supported by the vendor throughout its lifetime. Small business hardware sits between the two, being typically built to a consumer standard using less expensive hardware, but with more features and with support options from the vendor. For the best overall experience, we always recommend enterprise hardware unless significant budget constraints are a factor.

Network scalability refers to the ability of your computer network to accommodate growth in physical size, number of users or devices and bandwidth utilised without sacrificing performance or reliability. This is an important consideration to avoid the network becoming overloaded and slow, affecting productivity, just as your business is scaling up and has the most demands. Allowing for reasonable growth from the outset ensures a seamless experience as your business grows, and is most cost-effective as it avoids having to rip out and replace struggling hardware at additional time and expense later on. Gwhizz Networks will help you to plan sensibly, but not excessively, for the future in order to maximise your investment.

We often see Wi-Fi, the fibre Internet access and the general network as being conflated as the same thing, whereas in fact they are separate. So a complaint that "the Internet is slow" is in reality most often caused by the wireless network (Wi-Fi). This is because wireless networks suffer from a number of environmental and technical constraints which don't affect hard-wired connections: (1) Wi-Fi signals get weaker with increased distance from the nearest access point; (2) obstacles such as floors, walls and windows can block the signal; (3) interference from other Wi-Fi networks and devices such as microwaves and cordless phones; (4) contention at the access point when too many Wi-Fi devices are all attempting to connect simultaneously. These problems can mostly be avoided by using high quality hardware and by appropriate positioning of the installed access points. Gwhizz Networks will survey and install Wi-Fi at the most suitable locations in your premises for optimal coverage and a great experience.
